The statutory residence test was introduced in 2013 and is designed to give taxpayers greater certainty and clarity as to whether or not they are a UK-resident for tax purposes.

It continues to be subject to extensive litigation and this course is aimed at advisors whose clients are seeking to become non-resident and those who are presently non-resident but may (perhaps inadvertently) become UK resident.

Tax barrister Peter Vaines will cover the following: the Automatic Non-Residence Test; the Automatic Residence Test; residence by reference to UK ties; consideration of the meaning of work, accommodation and home; the Special Deeming Test; arrivers and leavers; temporary non-residence; split years; and special situations and problem areas as well as the issues expected to arise in April 2017.
