Field Court Tax Chambers

Field Court Tax Chambers is delighted to welcome David Southern QC as a tenant as of 1st May 2021.  Mr Southern has a wide-ranging tax practice covering direct taxes and VAT in equal measure, nationally and cross-border.  His litigation practice is extensive, representing taxpayers in many of the recent high-profile cases on judicial review of payment notices, including Rowe and Cartref Care Homes, and acting regularly for foreign governments in the UK and abroad, including China, Australia, Latvia, and the European Commission. He is also the sole author of Taxation of Loan Relationships and Derivative Contracts, now in its 10th edition, and a contributor to Gore-Browne on Companies.  Coming to us from Temple Tax Chambers, David was called to the Bar in 1997 after working at the Inland Revenue and in banking and was appointed QC in 2014. He also served as Director of the School of Tax Law at Queen Mary, University of London until 2020.  Head of Chambers, Patrick Soares commented, “David will be a great asset to our chambers and is full of new ideas and is warmly welcomed.” We would like to extend a very warm welcome to David, and we look forward to working alongside him.
